System and Network Administration Group About the Group The sys and net administrators are responsible for all aspects of the software and hardware used by CS, Mathematics, and Physics in Dennis Hall. Currently they support three flavors of open source Un*x on over 50 machines. The department has three labs running Linux, a couple of FreeBSD servers, and two Beowulf clusters. Job Description The basic responsibilities asked of students in the group are: Attend weekly planning meetings (about 1 hour) Develop and maintain Perl and shell scripts Track backup and recovery on core servers Maintain automated software distribution mechanism Keep track of your time and what you are working on Emergency repairs (duct-tape, binder's twine, etc.) A total of 10 hours/week of your time Prerequisites for applying for a position: Programming and Problem Solving (or the equivalent experience) Advanced Programming (or the equivalent experience) Familiarity with Un*x Good organizational skills Alumni Jack Rabah Karl Kuntz Chris Hardie Alex Reeder Ken Innes Abby Ge
