Treadle Reducer

The left columns of these example pages show an approximation of what you see when using the Treadle Reducer. The right columns of these example pages are commentary.

In this example, we'll suppose we are working with a tie-up draft that looks like this:

This tie-up is written for a loom with 8 shafts and 14 treadles.

You want to try to weave it on a loom with 8 shafts and only 10 treadles.

Number of shafts:
Number of treadles in the original tie-up:
Number of treadles on your loom:

The first screen of the Treadle Reducer looks like the table on the left.

In this case, the number of shafts (harnesses) is 8. Your loom needs to have the same number of shafts as the original tie-up was written for. The Treadle Reducer can help cure treadle envy, but it does nothing for shaft envy.

The number of treadles in the original tie-up is 14, and the number of treadles on your loom is 10.

To use the Treadle Reducer, you would put these numbers in the text-boxes in the table. (In this tutorial, no matter what you put in the text-boxes, the program will behave as if you had put in the correct values.)

Make Grid You would then click on Make Grid Do this now to keep going in the tutorial, or hit the Back button on your browser to go back.
