DAY 8

  • Arrive at camp close (within a couple miles) of the rendesvous site. Have group begin to go through gear, food, and supplies creating trash piles and lists of things that need replacement. While one instructor supervises this, other instructor(s) should go check-in with the other brigade to plan the event for the following day.
  • That night after dinner, plan a frame talk about the purpose, objectives, and expecations of Rendesvous. Remember to make it fun also. Perhaps the group can plan a skit or conspiracy for the other group. Make sure any planned consipracies are done in a way that lifts the spirits of the other group (it should NOT be a demeaning practical joke). For example- you could have each member of your brigade be a "secret santa" for someone in the other brigade.

Make a special point of saying goodbye to any departing group members (like faculty).

DAY 9- Rendesvous Day

Leave camp (after bomb-proofing) to attend Rendesvous. At Rendesvous..

1. Allow for a short amount of informal milling around and greeting (15 min)

2. Organize whole group into logistics "teams": lunch making teams, bread making team (for dinner), re-supply team, trash team, pots and pans clean-up team (everything should be boiled), re-ration team, any other duties you can think of. Try to get teams to be from diff brigades

3. Have a communal lunch (freshies from re-supply!)

4. Afternoon: Organize some kind of cross-brigade sharing. Groups of 4-6. Make it fun but also meaningful. Instructors should spread out amongst the groups and/or- perhaps instructors could cook dinner. You could also do some large group games or swimming or just plain relaxing and unstructured time (be aware of too much unstructured time however as well as the temptation for people to either lower their safety awareness and/or LNT ethic in a large group setting).

5. Have a communal dinner (freshies from re-supply)

6. Finish up with a large group discussion if feasible and goodbye's.

7. Return to camp with re-supplies and prepare for next day
