Quaker Settlement
From WildWiki
The Quaker Settlement is a dream come true for the New Zealand program. The compound is beautiful and relatively excluded though within the city of Wanganui. It can sleep 20 fairly easily and has the space for both classrooms and a kitchen/small dining room.
Nigel and Mandy Brooke are "settlers" who assist with bookings and have worked with Earlham groups in the past. You can reach them through the Settlement website. Through contacts at the Settlement we have also set up a treaty workshop with David James and Jillian Wychel who are highly respected Treaty of Waitangi trainers. Anne Potaka- also a Quaker in Wanganui and current clerk of Wanganui Meeting can do Maori language workshops (she is part-Maori). Finally, Mandy Brooke herself can offer some interesting insights on the NZ schooling system and, in particular, her attempts to transform a local school into an eco-school. She may also be able to arrange school visits and/or teachers to come and talk about the experience Zero Waste Schools.
