Picton

Motuara Island On the way through Queen Charlotte Sounds from Wellington to Picton, the ferry goes past a small DoC managed predator-free sanctuary: Motuara Island. It is full of birds: bellbirds, fantails, NZ robins, saddlebacks, and kereru (pigeons) can easily be seen. Blue penguins and young kiwi chicks are also found there, though only at night.
