Map of Assateague National Seashore:
Further reading on Assateague National Seashore is, of course, very encouraged. I have found these readings to be quite helpful. They can be read by leaders, campers or parents.
Walks and Rambles on the Delmerva Peninnsila by Jay Abercrombie
And, this following link will bring you to the National Park Service website. This site has pdf file that includes a great description on the Nature trails we will follow on Assateague. It would be really nice if each camper printed a copy of this reading and brought it along with them on Assateague Island Adventure. This reading discusses the various wild life and charms Assateague has to offer. After you access the NPS website below, click on the Maryland Trail Guide link and note that it is a BIG file.
IV. Trip Leaders Information
There will be four qualified and energetic trip leaders during the 10 day adventure. There are several important roles and responsibilities the leader must take on during the trip and they are as follows:
-Provide support and encourage to each camper.
-Ensure camper's safety and well-being.
-Teach lessons on Assateague's diverse environment and on camping procedures in general (Leave No Trace, camp crafts...)
-Instruct campers on how to hike and canoe.
-Be a role-model and a friend.
There are several links instructors must go over that I have posted below. Though these links are made available for instructors list, if curiosity strikes the camper feel free to look around.
