Mohawk Walk
From WildWiki
Description
A series of cables strung tightly between trees 1-2 feet off the ground. The distance between trees, or the span of the cable is varied to increase challenge and to make each span a different task. Each separate span should have tools available to the group ranging from the use of arms (shorter spans) to a rope (longer spans). Spans can range in length from 3-15 feet. In the set-up, you need to install a "tension rope" off the main tree (available and labeled as such in the shed).
Objectives
For the whole group to traverse the length of the linked cables without falling off or touching the ground. Note: You can either state the consequences for a person falling off the cable such as that person must return to the beginning of the section, or you can have the group decide what they would like their consequences to be.
Safety Concerns
1. Make sure everyone knows proper spotting technique. Everyone on the cable should be safely spotted which entails that there is a spotter on either side of the cable for the participant could fall either forwards or backwards. Often participants have to step off the cable to help with spotting. If they do so, they can re-enter the element at the place they stepped off.
2. When spotting someone using the rope, they should stand between the participant and the tree to which the rope is attached.
3. Stress the need to let go off the rope if fall in order to avoid being dragged to the ground.
4. It is safer to step off the cable if you feel yourself falling rather than trying to force yourself to stay on.
