Kapiti Island

Kapiti Island is a real highlight if students can visit (weather permitting). It is an island reserve for endangered bird species and DOC only allows a maximum of 50 visits per day to the island. Reservations through DOC should be made well ahead of time (3-6 months).
To make things even better, we (2008) are working out an opportunity to stay on the island overnight through the Kapiti Island Lodge- the only lodge on the island. The owner, John, is willing to work with our group in terms of accommodating our numbers, etc. By staying overnight, students will have the opportunity to experience the morning and evening chorus of birds and possibly even search for kiwis. You will have to arrange ferry transport separately. See the above website for more information.
OTHER LODGING OPTIONS
If students need to stay on the mainland, the Paekakariki Holiday Park has a group lodge that sleeps up to 30 for a very reasonable price.
