Kaikoura

Kaikoura is a small town that is known for being a Green Globe Certified community. We spoke to folks at Kaikora City Council, the only council in New Zealand that is Green Globe Certified.

We swam with the dusky dolphins with Dolphin Encounter and later spoke to the directors of their organization about their status as one of the few Green Globe Certified organizations in the world.

And yet to get another perspective on Maori culture, we participated in a day tour with Maori Tours. Maurice Manawatu took us to historical Maori places in Kaikoura, spoke to us about natural history of the place, invited us into his Marae where his family had prepared lunch for us.

Lodging: Dusky Lodge is recommended. It is fully equipt with kitchen and communal areas for large groups (they even let us have a whole kitchen to ourselves!). The spa and sauna are also a hit. They also have poolside Thai catering available for large groups - a great option.

It is highly recommended to take a morning walk around the peninsula and go seal sighting. Without doubt you will run into them!
