Gear List For Assateague Island Wilerness Adventure
Basic Packing Guidelines
Because the trip will only be 10 days long, it is important that participants do not over pack. There will be sections of the trip where we will be backpacking and carrying everything we have on our backs. A heavy backpack is never fun, so be aware of this while you are packing. The weather on the coast of Maryland can also vary quite a bit. Though, there is going to be some time spend in sun on the beach, there will also be experiences in cool, dense. Whereas, it is the summer and over all the weather will be mild, be prepared for anything. Smart ways to protect your self against the cold is avoiding cotton, and going for clothing made out of silk, wool and polyester. Cotton does not dry quickly and when your clothing is wet, you get cold. Being aware of what your clothing is made out of is very important when preparing for any camping trip. The other thing to be mindful of when you are looking for gear is price. If you go to an outdoor store, odds are you will find the best and most updated types of synthetic material, but it will also be the most expensive. A lot of the clothing on this list can be found in discount and second-hand stores. Look in these types of places first before going to the more specialized ones. For things like boots, foul weather gear, and some wool, the only option might be Outdoor stores, but be creative with all of this. Now, for the what to pack:
