The Location
We will be hiking the Long Trail in Vermont. This trail runs the length of Vermont from the Massachsettes/Vermont border to the Canadian border. This is scheduled to take 4 weeks including time for group projects and individual, single day “solos”. Participents should have experience with longer hiking trips (ie. over a week). Additional experience in wilderness is recommended but not required. We will be staying in shelters when appropriate and tarping when there are other hikers .
Dates
May 14th: Leaders File Permits
May 28th:Participants gather to drive to Massachusetts trailhead (One staff to drive to other end)
June 1st: First day of the trek, the Pine Cobble Trail.
June 16th: MidpointSelect locations for Solos
June 29th: Finish at the Canadian Border on Jay road (meet up with van for the trip home)
June 31st: Debrief

Educational Component
- Who: The participants in OTL 2007 will spend 10-15 minutes learning the rudiments to a single skill of wildcraft.
- When: Friday the 13th at 1 pm.
- Where: LBC 211
- What: The basics of Debris Shelters
The students and I will spend 15 minutes looking at diagrams on the board and learning what makes a successful debris shelter. We will determine the things that shelter is supposed to provide in a wilderness context and then we will look at how the debris shelter meets those needs. Additionally we will look at:
