Sweet Southwest Colorado Backpacking Trip
Trip Description:
This is a 15 day backpacking extravaganza based in Southwest Colorado starts in Durango and heads into Silverton through The San Juan National Forest in the Weminuchi Wilderness. We will be traveling in groups of 4-7 through San Juan Mountains, across the Continental Divide, through the Grenadier Mountain Range, and the Needled Mountains. Although the Journey shall be strenuous, several Lay-over days are planned at beautiful creeks and lakes, so don't forget your fishing pole! First time backpackers are welcome although some experience is reccomended.
Important Dates:
May 10: Confirmation papers and gear checklist due
June 10: Meet at Durango-La Plata Airport and Drive to Vallecito Lake Campground
June 11: Orientation and group formation
June 12: Start first day of Hiking!
June 27: Return to Vallecito Lake Campground
June 28: Drive back to Durango-La Plata Airport
Leaders
Requirements
- Must be certified in Wilderness First Aid
- Must be certified in Wilderness First Responder
- Must be experienced in backpacking/hiking long term trips
- Reccomended to have experience in the Colorado Mountains

Participants
Requirements
- Must be age 18 or older
- Must be physically fit (be able to hike avg. 8 miles a day with 50lb pack on back)
- Must rent own equipment (or use your own personal gear/equipment)
- Must have a sense of humor and smile at all times :)
