Blindfold Shapes
From WildWiki
Description
Participants are blindfolded and asked to make a shape (or several) using a rope. Generally, you start them in a line with the rope at their feet, you have them pick up the rope and tell them that now their hands must stay on the rope at all times (they may move them around on the rope but cannot let go). Then tell them the objective is to make a shape. Generally, you want to start with an easier shape (perhaps a square) but you can also launch right into a harder one (rectangle, star). You can also do this in several steps getting progressively harder with each one. Once the group is sure they have the shape they want, have them lay the rope on the ground, let go, and at that point they may take off their blindfolds.
Safety Concerns
Participants being blindfolded, watch for hitting heads, tripping, etc. This activity can also get quite heated due to the frustration levels of not being able to see and lots of people talking over one another. Monitor to be sure people are speaking with good purpose and being productive with one another. You can silence people as a way to correct for this.
Debrief Points
How did you all communicate with one another? How did you decide when you were completed? Were you correct? How do groups make decisions? How did you all make decisions? How hard was it to envision "the big picture"? Does that sometimes happen in groups too? What was frustrating about this? In what ways are we "blind" as leaders at times? How can groups "go blind"? How do we counteract that?
