Up: Implementing Linux and Open-Source
Previous: Evaluation Plan
The Linux operating system and the software tools we would
include in the software bundle are produced under open-source
compliant software licenses, which allow adaptation, modification, and
redistribution, provided our product also carries an open-source
compliant license. A successful open-source software development
project requires the cultivation of a base of users, invested in the
success of the project, who test the software, submit bug reports and
contribute code. Through the development process, we will establish a
core group of users and developers from which we can expand. The size
and vitality of this group will provide an early indicator of the success of
our dissemination efforts.
For broader dissemination, we will submit reports of our work to
pedagogical and professional journals such as The Physics
Teacher and Linux Journal, and at professional conferences,
such as the Joint Meeting of the American Physical Society and the
American Association of Physics Teachers and the Joint Meeting of the
American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of
America.
