2008-2009 Academic Year
Earlham College invites applications for a potential one year full-time
non-tenure track visiting position beginning in August of 2008 (with the
possibility of renewal for a second year). Computer Science at Earlham is a
small, dynamic program, with an orientation towards combining rigorous
foundations with experiential education. Our students are engaged in a very
high level of undergraduate research, application development and system
support activity (see http://cs.earlham.edu
for more information).
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in CS or a closely related discipline (possibly ABD or, in exceptional circumstances, have equivalent experience) and be able to teach a broad spectrum of courses across the ACM/IEEE curriculum. Typical course load is three courses per semester; upper division classes usually have no more than 15 students. Candidates in all areas of specialization are welcome; interest in leading undergraduate research and/or one or more of the student teams which provide nearly all of the infrastructure support for the department is highly desirable.
Our course schedule can be found at http://cs.earlham.edu/pages/course-schedule.html. Courses marked with "(JR)" are the ones most likely to be taught by the successful candidate.
Earlham is liberal arts college of about 1200 students and is affiliated with the Society of Friends (Quakers); approximately 11\% of the students are Quakers. We try to combine the finest liberal arts education with an environment shaped by historic Quaker commitments. Our learning community is characterized by respect for every person, a commitment to social concerns and peacemaking, and a dedication to the integration of intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual growth of all members of the community. Global awareness and respect for cultural diversity are strongly emphasized. The College is selective and financially strong. Our student body comes from across the nation and the world; although most students are from the Eastern and Midwestern states, approximately 15 percent of the student body is international, coming from 68 nations in 2007.
