About the Website

This version of the Computer Science Department website is the first to go through a design and implementation process analogous to program design and implementation. Work on the site began in September of 1996 and the first version was put online November 16, 1996. The website was originally designed and implemented by Chris Hardie, a graduate Computer Science major from Cincinnati, OH.

The site continues to experience updates and minor remodeling. Recently it was updated by Nicholas Marouf, a Senior CS major from Ramallah, Palestine and Levent Besik, a Junior CS major from Istanbul, Turkey. For more information, contact them at marouf@ramallahonline.com and levent@besik.net.
The site is currently being updated by Glen Upton and Jeremy Brown-Hayes.

The website is served by Apache HTTPd 1.3.17 and is hosted on a Dual PIII 450 Mhz machine that runs FreeBSD 4.2. The HTML makes use of server side includes for counter and hit recording.

Colophon: The graphics for the website were designed entirely from scratch using Adobe Photoshop. The font for the words "Computer Science" is Garamond Black, bold. The font for the words "@earlham.edu," the second-level page headings, and the navigation bar is Univers Condensed Bold. The HTML was coded in a simple text editor on a Digital Decstation.
